Why does Goodwill charge so much for donated cars?

I reallize that Goodwill must make a profit, but so much?? I live on $700 a month and need a car. I thought I would shop Goodwill cause thats where I usually go for things. I was shocked at the prices.
ok reckon I will clarify my position since my first response was so rude. I am 60 yrs old and disabled. If I could get a job beleive me I would this is no fun way to live. I miss being able to have what I want and need.

I have a baby car seat and wanted to know how to tell if its still good. I only have the date when it was made. I rescued it…someone wanted to throw it away so I nabbed it and wanted to clean it up and donate it to someone that could use it. But is there a website I can go to…to check maybe the number on it or something? thanks

My daughter is a full time college student with a low paying job. Her car just gave out. Can anyone help her? I’m in no position to help as my car has broken down too. Please she just needs a hand up not a hand out. She will glady donate the car back as soon as she graduates and finds a job. I fear for her walking the five miles to and from work. She does ride the transit when possible and her coworkers will give her a lift sometimes but she is too embrassed by her situation to bother them to much so she walks home at 1:30 in the morning. I fear for her. Please any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am a single mom struggling to get on my feet. I am starting school next week and have no transportation. I am in need of a car. If you know of anyone in the NJ area willing to donate their car to me in exchange for a 1098 tax credit worth the book value of the car, please let me know. Because I don’t have any money, the car needs to be in decent condition, working, and able to pass inspection. I know beggers can’t be be choosers but, I have to put my daughter in this vehicle. My friend has a Saab.. I think its a 94 hatchback. There may be a couple of new parts in it but overall the car is in rough condition. Its awful. SO the question is… does she sell it to a scrap metal place/+try to sell the new parts separately, donate it, or sell it to someone who is ok with the condition? Sure its nice to donate but she needs to go with the option that brings the most cash so please no comments of how she would be a horrible person to not just donate. What is the most profitable solution? Thanks.
Claiming a donated car on my taxes with a 1098-c fourm?

I donated a car that was sold at auction for $1,245. I was given a 1098-C fourm and box 7 was not checked, saying I could claim more than the $500 limit. When I input this into Turbo Tax, it did not change my refund. What do I need to do to receive the full $1245? Do just need to send and my 1098-c to be verified and then I will get the full amount? And if so, can I e-file if I did do that?
