I am a college student and will have a car on campus next year, so I want to start looking now. My parents are going to pay some, but it looks like 20k is my max price (excluding tax/tags/insurance). I will have to pay some out of my pocket.
I am driving a 95 Nissan Maxima, but am about to donate it because it is such bad shape.
Bascially if I could have any reasonable car right now, I would want an Infiniti G35 coupe. From what I have read/seen, the car sure is quick and it looks great doing so. The only thing is, my local listings rarely get below 21k and if so, the G35 has 65000+ miles on it.
I would like to stay with AT, and have the option of the +/- shifting. What car do you recommend with my info above?
Second, how is the Mazda RX-8? Thanks!

The G35 is a good car but i recommend the Mazda RX8. It’s a great car and the engine is great. Very sporty interior and exterior. You can buy it brand new for 23K and u can probably find a used one for under 20K really easily. I know you will like the RX8.
PS: The manual would probably be a better choice.

Go for it! If you like the G35, buy it!! Plus it’s RWD
But so is the RX-8… but it tends to have more problems… depends whether you want 4 or 2 doors… well the Mazda is basically a 4 door, I don’t know what you’d call it…

Get a WRX, they are affordable, if your looking for a sports car. Lousy interior of course, but it is light enough and as fast as a 2005+ G35 (manual)

It totally depends on your driving style and habbits. The RX-8 an awesome machine, but I bias having owned a 2nd gen and 3rd gen RX-7, I can’t shake the rotary addiction.
The Nissan 350Z is also a great choice- it’s a G35 Coupe minus the rear seats and about 400lbs (same engine/trans and chassis), as well as the new Mustang GT. But, for under 20K, choices get limited as far as balls-to-wall performance. The pre 2001 Toyota MR2s are great; mid-engine, RWD, and the turbo model is quick. They look sweet, too.

‘97-’99 Corvettes are selling in that price range. The C5 is a real nice looking car and quick too with 340HP.

RX-8 is a fine car though not my taste (looks like designers could not make up their minds). Why don’t you buy a $10,000.00 Mustang GT? It has enough torque to rotate the earth, parts are cheap, it is very easy to maintain and a good one will run 200,000+ miles with no suprises. Or are you in law school?
