I think the university was MIT.
I think the donor car was a Ford Pinto (of all things)
I remember it used soft foam, like a couch, Not like Styrofoam.
I remember that it weighed less, got better MPG, and was nearly indestructible in a crash.
Was big news for a while. Haven’t heard anything about it in decades.

it was in the 70’s and yea it was mit. I remember it too. I had just got into the car business then. The problem was rain sleet and such the foam could not hold up as well as a huge fire hazard. I have not heard that mentioned in years as well.
