I am disturbed that there are so many people in this country without transportation, whole families, and Cash for Clunkers is destroying not just large, gas guzzling vehicles but family vehicles like mini-vans with small 6-cylinders in them to sell more cars. I am disturbed by the total waste that is happening here, and now they are asking for more MONEY? How about donating the more viable, more efficient cars to agencies that can distribute them to needy families who could use them to get to work, school, etc. instead of pouring sand in the crankcases and selling them for scrap? Any thoughts?
Well Duh: It has been proven that MOST of the cars here in Orlando-area did not meet the criteria for the program but were accepted anyway. I imagine that dealers everywhere relaxed their standards to make the deals happen. In theory it was just an okay idea… How do you like it NOW?

anyone giving away beanie babies or toy cars?
I always look for “charity like” items for my three year old son, and he loves beanie babies and toy cars. Any item really, i would keep in mind. it seems like many people are trying to get rid of these, but i dont think they are worth buying anymore because nobody seems to take interest in these sale attempts…my son can always use them though!
What are you feelings on the cash for clunkers with Foreign cars being included?
This is USA tax payer dollars, why is this not just for GM, Ford, Chrysler. Kind of defects it purpose giving the big three a jolt, who the F cares about Toyota Nissan ETC. any thoughts on this.
What is a good crossover SUV to get through the CARS program?
I need a little help picking a car to trade in my clunker for through Cash for Clunkers.
I’ve tried looking at cars online, but there’s such an over-saturation of models and places to look at and different versions of cars, I thought someone here more knowledgeable about autos may be able to help.
For one thing, I know my car qualifies for trade-in, and I should also note that my credit rating is VERY good (800s) and almost spotless, so financing shouldn’t be a problem.
I’m looking for somewhat of a good-sized car, as I have grandparents who use a wheelchair, to transport, but something not huge, along the lines of a Honda CR-V, Ford Edge, or a Hyundai Santa Fe.
The caveat is wanting something that is less than $20,000 / about $200 a month. This is where I have the most trouble, finding a good car for that price. I wouldn’t mind a lease either, as long as it doesn’t surpass 2-3 years.
Can anyone offer any help?

Why does Goodwill charge so much for donated cars?
I reallize that Goodwill must make a profit, but so much?? I live on $700 a month and need a car. I thought I would shop Goodwill cause thats where I usually go for things. I was shocked at the prices.
ok reckon I will clarify my position since my first response was so rude. I am 60 yrs old and disabled. If I could get a job beleive me I would this is no fun way to live. I miss being able to have what I want and need.

Sounds good at first. But look into what it really is doing.
A 1971 Olds Tornado with a 454 V8 with no catalytic converter is not a CLUNKER based on the program. I
Only cars from 1984 and newer qualify for the program so if you drive something from the 60’s 70’s or 80’s before 1984 your car is not a Clunker. After you trade your car in the govenment is destroying the car. It could be in perfect condition and just be old but they will destroy. This will make the used car market scarce on vehicles which will make used cars more expensive which will affect the poorest that cannot afford a 15-30K car.
One other thing. How are all these people going to make their monthly payments on these loans. They only get $4500.00 off a 12k-30k car. In 6-8 months Geithner will come out with the Car Loan bailout.

My family and I are traveling throughout southern Europe beginning in Genoa, Itlay and then traveling through Italy, the Balkan Peninsula, Greece, Hungary Austria, Slovakia, Poland, and the Czech Republic. It is impossible to get a rental car to travel to these destinations therefore we have been instructed to buy a car. Where can we buy a used car in these areas?
