Car Donations in California

How does it work?
Is it sold to used car dealers? Used by charity members to do charity work? What happenes to these vehicles after they take it away?

I know I’ve seen ads from charities that take peoples old cars and either fix them up or scrap them and use the scrap money. Has this program hurt charities whose revenues are already down in a tough economy?

In the state of Michigan if you get pregnant and dont have any money the list goes on and on with the charities you will recieve. Health insurance that covers everything without a dime to pay for a copayment. Food stamps to pay for all the food. Wic to pay for all the formula and juice. Section 8 will pay your rent. Hud will buy you a brand new home. The state will pay for a new car. They will also pay $1200 to fix a car. They will pay for your gas. They will buy you clothes. They will give you carseats. The list goes on and on and on. How will they get people and teens especially to stop having kids if you live better once you have them. I work my butt off 40 + hours a week and my husband goes to college full time so we can have a good life. The girl I work with had 2 kids before 18 and is only 19 now lives 10 times better then I do. IN the city I live in we have more teen pregnany then any other city in MI and people wonder why! What can be done to stop this?

I really need a car, and I cant find any info on any charities that offer cars to people in need. does anyone know of any, all i can find is places to donate cars for causes.

Our NGO/charity needs Free Vehicles to serve the poor and needy in our field. Pl.suggest where we will get them soon.
WE have all sorts of permissions to receive Donations from Domestic and International Donors.

I do not have a car. I have a chance to buy a used car for $800, which would get me through until tax time next year. I’ve applied to the state vehicle purchase program, but have heard nothing. Are there any private charities that could help me? Let me know.

There are many commercials and ads asking to donate cars for charity and people usually get a tax deduction. A portion of the cars traded for “cash for clunkers” would be donated to charity. I wonder if anyone knows how many cars are usually donated yearly and whether there is a significant decline due to this “too generous” program. Thank you.

I found one article from Utah about charities hurting, but do not know if this applies to the whole nation.

I am not trying to smear the program, but there are many unintended consequences – it is like the dominoes, you push one and they all are connected and fall, and apparently our lawmakers approved it very fast without estimating full impact it will have on our lives.

I have a small computer desk, home PC (with hard drive files already shredded), LOTS of clothes, books, etc that I would like to donate. Since I have a small car I would need the organization to offer pick up service.

I want to get it out of my driveway this month. Occasionally I see a request for auto donations from the Purple Heart, but I’d prefer to donate to a medical charity if possible.

I need names of charities that can help them. I have letters from them with all of the info. I really need to help them. My aunt is on-line looking for info everyday and she hasn’t found anything.If she can’t find help I really don’t know how I can. I turn you for assistance.

My sister had a stroke a few months ago (she is only 32) and she has various medical problems. She is a single mother of 2 children and receives minimum child support ($400) a month for one child. We live in California and rent is very expensive here and her apartment is falling apart. She is struggling to buy food and rent. She was on government aid of food stamps but they took her off as soon as she got on disablility. Now her car has broke down and the repairs are more expensive than the car is worth. Please help if you know any information, we are desperate!

My friend’s 6 year old son has terminal cancer. He has been bravely fighting this disease for two years and his mother has been unable to work due to her son’s treatment schedule. She also has a two year old daughter that she must shuffle back and forth to caretakers while she is in the hospital (an hour away from home) with her sick boy. Six months ago, her car was repossesed for non-payment because she couldn’t afford it. She receives only enough assistance from the government to pay for rent and some bills. A local cancer charity has allowed her the use of a car to get back and forth to treatments, but that won’t last forever. We just got news that her son has two to six months to live and I’m sure she won’t be able to go back to work right away. Any suggestions?
