It seems that every lot I pass, there are 5-10 cars that appear to be in servicing (only there for a couple days, and there’s turnover), but there’s AT LEAST (and sometimes way more) 5-10 cars with missing engines or tires, no doors, broken windshields, etc., just sitting in the lot!
Especially in the city, where property is at a premium, wouldn’t it behoove them to junk, donate, or take the time to fix them? Are they just leaving them there for spare parts?
So many of them are old, rusted, eyesores, and seem to be beyond repair… why keep them around, wasting space & making your business look messier? If it’s a fixer-upper, work on it sometime!

id say the majority of them are jst spare parts and they are slowly stripping them down (all the good reusable parts). some mechanics more than likely have toys and projects at home nut dont want their house to look like their place of work in case the missus throws a wobbly.

Alot of people drop off cars for repairs and then the bill grows. When that happens they abandon their car. The business owner has so many days to wait until they can apply for a mechanics lein on the said vehicle. Other lots are just junky!! Mostly thats what happens though. Waiting to take the lein out on it, fix it and sell it.

when i was running my shop the only cars that would stay on my lot would be cars that were getting repaired or cars that i had on lien but i wouldnt ever let a car sit and rot for more then three months (90 days actually) and then i would haul them to the salvage and get what i could for them but it all depends on the shop i have worked at several shops that have had a few cars sitting around doing nothing i worked for one guy that had a shop and had about 20 cars sitting in his lot he wouldnt sell them or get rid of them he was strange like that so it all depends on the shop owner

It reminds us of what happens when we screw up.
